OK to Apply Sharia Law in US?

Well, yes, it's OK -- according to Harold Koh, a former dean of the Yale Law School who is Obama's nominee to serve as legal adviser to the State Department.
Koh is one of the lefties who believes wholeheartedly that there's nothing wrong with the US Constitution and law being deemed subservient to international law.

Breitbart: Left-Wing 'Hooligans' Demoralizing Conservative Blogs With Their Comments

Piece begins: "Read the comment sections of right-leaning blogs, news sites and social forums, and the evidence is there in ugly abundance. Internet hooligans are spewing their talking points to thwart the dissent of the newly-out-of-power."
Is Andrew Breitbart correct? Do left-wing commentors on Townhall's blog "want to ensure that President Obama is not subject to the same coordinated, facts-be-damned, multimedia takedown they employed over eight long years to destroy the presidency - and the humanity - of George W. Bush?"
Other conservative web blogs have had--what I would consider--great success limiting the number of people who can comment. This way those who are not bringing a healthy dose of intellectual honesty can be weeded out and find something else to do in their mother's basement.

Anything can happen in America, people - Democrat Al Franken seems to be in line for the Minnesota Senate. The Politico is reporting on a ruling by Minnesota judges that says the maximum number of votes that can be recounted in his race against Republican Norm Coleman is 400. With a 225 point lead, Franken probably won't have any trouble keeping the seat. Everyone run for cover.

Like a Bad Sitcom, Ayers Appearance CANCELLED

Bill Ayers, the terrorist (funny how Wikipedia says "activist" instead), won't be speaking at Naperville (Illinois) North High School after all.
From the Naperville Sun:
"Naperville North High School won't let 1960s radical speak to students after outcry." "After a weekend of hostile e-mails from area residents, Naperville Community Unit School District 203 rescinded its invitation to the 1960s radical to address students April 8 at Naperville North High School."
“Lots of people have concerns about him,” he said, referring to the community’s reaction. “I have heard from other districts that have had him speak. Some said it was a beneficial experience and some things I heard clearly bothered me.”
Wait, did he say that some thought "it was a beneficial experience?" EXCUSE ME, what? On teaching people how to bomb the Pentagon or how not to regret doing enough?
The paper added...
"District 203 Director of Communications Melea Smith said the district had received more than 125 e-mails over the weekend and the sentiment ran against Ayers’ coming to visit. “It’s a mixed bag,” Smith said. “The majority of people are angry.” Let me get this straight, a majority is a "mixed bag?" If it were just a mixed bag, the school district wouldn't have pulled the plug -- this is just the AP's can try to justify the stupidity of allowing a terrorist to pal around with high school students.

Netanyahu to Obama: Stop Iran—Or I Will

This Jeffrey Goldberg piece came out today in The Atlantic:
"In an interview conducted shortly before he was sworn in today as prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu laid down a challenge for Barack Obama. The American president, he said, must stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons—and quickly—or an imperiled Israel may be forced to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities itself."

Sen. Banking Cmte Member Brown (D-OH) Gets Counterfactual Hat-Trick On MSNBC

Senate Banking Cmte member, Sherrod Brown (D-OH) appeared on MSNBC to share some economic insight. He scored a counterfactual hat-trick in a mere four minutes and thirty seconds--unheard of! His first goal came at the 0:30 mark when he told viewers that Republicans "threw softballs at the bankers" during the December and January hearings. The MSNBC anchors quickly pointed out his error. Sen. Brown's second goal was scored at 1:18 when he declared there's "a lot of class warfare going on from conservatives." No clarification from MSNBC this time. First assist goes to Contessa Brewer with second assist going to Melissa Francis. The third goal of Sen. Brown's counterfactual hat-trick was awarded at 3:59 when he assured MSNBC viewers: "We know that the New Deal worked.... Probably the fiscal stimulus wasn't strong enough." Assist from Brewer and Francis.

Via Newsbusters.
"What does 'defeat' mean?" Maddow asks with a huge "gotcha" smile after playing video of Bush 43 and Obama saying, "...and they must be defeated."
We also learn that the word "Homeland" is "creepy."

BENEFITS, NOT SACRIFICES, FOR FAITHFULNESS

A startling study in the New England Journal of Medicine provides powerful new evidence of the importance of circumcision. Johns Hopkins University researchers concluded that circumcision substantially reduces transmission of both HPV and herpes to men, while noting that previous research showed similarly dramatic reductions in HIV-AIDS infection. Dr. Ronald Gray declared: “The findings suggest that there are important lifetime health benefits to the procedure.” Unfortunately, he noted a drop in circumcision rates in the U.S., particularly in minority communities where HIV, herpes and cervical cancer are disproportionately common. For religious Jews and many Christians, medical evidence isn’t required to justify a procedure explicitly commanded in the Bible. But the new scientific information provides further confirmation of the traditional teaching that those who faithfully follow divine commandments won’t suffer for their commitment.

"Tax Freedom Day" Eight Days Earlier This Year
|

Every year, the Tax Foundation calculates how long it will take for the average American to pay off his tax burden. This year, it's April 13, eight days earlier than in 2008 and 14 days earlier than in 2007. The Tax Foundation says this is for two reasons:
(1) the recession has reduced tax collections even faster than it has reduced income, and (2) the stimulus package includes large temporary tax cuts for 2009 and 2010. Nevertheless, Americans will pay more in taxes than they will spend on food, clothing and housing combined. Taxes this year total 28.2 percent of our income.

All Eyes and Ears on the Budget
|

Two amendments were filed last night on Obama's budget proposal from Senators John Thune (R-SD) and Mike Johanns (R-NE). Their amendments require any climate change legislation to ensure that energy prices will not go up ( implausible), and prohibit reconciliation rules from being implemented on cap-and-trade legislation. Reconciliation is a tricky beast - it allows Democrats to sidestep the necessity of a 60-40 majority, and instead pass laws with a simply majority. Republicans decried the tactic this year but defended it last year.
The House version of the bill passed through the Committee on the Budget last night, and a full vote is expected tomorrow. The Senate should vote on Thursday. Obama has urged legislators to pass the budget as quickly as possible, and has also expressed support for reconciliation, which would amount to a declaration of war against Republicans.
